The abstract submission system will open early February 2012.
The abstract submission deadline will be May 15, 2012.

LOCATION

The 17th Annual Scientific Meeting and Education Day of the Society for Neuro-Oncology will be held November 15-18, 2012, at the Washington Hilton Hotel, in Washington, DC. SNO has negotiated a discounted rate of $189.00 per night for the duration of the conference. Rooms at the Hilton may be reserved on-line after March 1, 2012.

In the early 1990s, clinical and research activities in neuro-oncology were concentrated in a few major medical centers, but the growing and diverse scientific needs of the existing and emerging scientific community had expanded beyond the scope of the existing organizations. The need for an organized effort to fill this gap and coordinate the activities in neuro-oncology was recognized in late 1994 by Victor Levin, MD, then Chair of the Department of Neuro-Oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Levin, joined by a core group of neuro-oncology professionals from multiple specialties articulated a shared vision of an organization that would promote multidisciplinary interactions and provide balanced representation for all specialties interested in advancing research and treatment of neurological malignancies. - Dr. Guo’s lab is focusing on EGFR/RTKs/PI3K/Akt and Ras/MEK/ERK signaling transduction and cancer metabolism. Recently

he and colleagues uncovered EGFR/PI3K/Akt signaling upregulates SREBP-1 activity to promote de novo fatty acid synthesis

and increase cholesterol uptake in brain tumor patients, and demonstrate SREBP-1 and its regulated key genes ACC, FAS and

LDLR as novel molecular targets in cancer (Guo, et al, PNAS, Science Signaling, and Cancer Discovery 2009). Dr. Guo's work

is committed to unraveling how EGFR/PI3K signaling regulates metabolism network, to unravel the link between glucose

uptake and lipid metabolism, to identify the key molecular targets in this network and develop potent inhibitors to translate

into clinical trial to eradicate cancer cells.

The 2011 SNO Annual Scientific Meeting and Education Day will be held at the Hyatt Hotel in Orange County, California, from November 17 through November 20, 2011. SNO is pleased to announce that this year the meeting will be held in conjunction with the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors. This added neurosurgical component will further enhance this already highly educational meeting. The program will feature popular and informative plenary sessions, informal poster sessions and meet-the-expert sessions, as well as an Education Day, at which attendees can catch up with breaking areas of research and controversies in the field. The Education Day will focus on Radiosurgery and Radiobiology, with a concurrent Quality of Life session. In addition, a young investigators' workshop Thursday afternoon will explore current challenges associated with neuro-oncology clinical trials design, conduct and evaluation. Annual Meeting Travel Scholarships -- Application Deadline August 29, 2011

A total of eight $1500.00 scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the SNO leadership for each of the following geographical regions (one per region): Central America & the Caribbean, Central and Southern Africa, China & associated countries, Eastern Europe, Far East and Australasia, Indian Sub-Continent, North Africa & the Middle East and South America.
