The Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) respects the privacy of its members and other visitors to its web site. SNO believes that visitors to its website www.soc-neuro-onc.org must be assured that information provided online is used responsibly and appropriately. To protect online privacy, SNO has implemented the following policy.
Collection of Information Most data SNO collects are used only to help SNO better serve its members and the neuro-oncology community. It is our policy to collect and store only the information that our members and visitors knowingly provide, or that they have already provided SNO and to Duke University Press who publish the Society's journal, Neuro-Oncology, as part of their member registration.
If our privacy policies change, users will be notified via e-mail or a special announcement placed on the web site.
From General Users: SNO does not collect personal information from users browsing its web site, except through specific feedback forms such as polls or surveys. Completion of these is optional. Users of the public areas of the SNO web site browse anonymously, although the servers on which the site is hosted may record the IP address and similar information, but this is only used for technical considerations by the hosting company, DynaPortal. Only aggregate data -- such as the number of hits per page, or patterns of visits and clickthroughs -- are analyzed by the SNO leadership to fine tune the structure of the website. These aggregate data are only used for internal purposes and do not provide any personally identifying information.
From Members: Personal information from members, such as is collected in the process of registering with the Society's membership office, may be used for internal SNO purposes by authorized SNO staff. Personal information will not be released to third parties except as noted below: • SNO provides a copy of some of its information regarding members to other not-for-profit and educational organizations, for use in encouraging participation in Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs. The information SNO provides to these organizations includes only the name and address of the SNO members, including email addresses. • SNO includes a Membership Directory in its Annual Meeting program, which is available to registered meeting attendees, and maintains an Online Membership Directory that is accessible through the web site to registered members only. These Membership Directories contain the name, address, telephone number, fax number, membership status and e-mail address (if available) of every SNO member. • Certain limited information (i.e., name and address of SNO members) may be provided to other organizations whose missions are consistent with the mission of SNO, in accordance to established procedure. • Members of the public, through the web site's Neuro-Oncology Center Directory listing, may obtain limited information about SNO members, including name, address, and telephone number and website, depending on how detailed their Center's listing is.
We are not aware of any other circumstances under which SNO will provide or sell personal information collected online to third parties.
Correcting and Updating Personal Information
The SNO encourages members to update and correct their personal information regularly online, and this can be done via the My SNO page.
Credit Card Account Information
Credit card information provided to the SNO via Duke University Press, such as credit card numbers, is not represented or associated with the SNO website (www.soc-neuro-onc.org) and is not present on the servers that run this website. Members are not required to provide this information to access this site, nor will any payment information be solicited via electronic forms or emails. The site does host a membership form that can be downloaded, printed, filled out and sent in via mail or fax, and this is necessary to join SNO and obtain the Society's journal, Neuro-Oncology.
Use of Cookies When you view our web site we may store some information on your computer. This information will be in the form of a "cookie". Cookies are small pieces of information stored on your hard drive, not on our site. Cookies do not spy on you or otherwise invade your privacy, and they cannot invade your hard drive and steal information. Rather, they help you navigate a web site as easily as possible. Surveys From time to time the SNO site requests information from users by way of surveys. Information requested may include contact information and demographic information. Survey information would be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction level associated with the site, with membership services, or with issues affecting the neuro-oncology community.

Opt Out There is currently no mechanism for members to opt out of inclusion in the printed annual meeting or online membership directory. However, members may limit the amount of personal information included in the directory and may opt out of other informational formats available to third parties, by declining to register with the website.
