The Society for Neuro-Oncology is pleased to announce the launch of a new online educational platform called the Neuro-Oncology Academy. The Neuro-Oncology Academy’s mission is to provide quality education in a variety of engaging formats for multi-disciplinary professionals in the field of neuro-oncology.

Isabel Arrillaga-Romany, who will serve as the initial Scientific Director of the Academy for a two-year term, says “our ability to provide high quality learning resources for our field is only possible through the remarkable commitment, leadership and talent of many of our contributing SNO members.  We are thrilled to have this new platform to support our educational mission.” She will be joined by Deputy Directors who will serve staggered two-year terms, with Erik Sulman and Farshad Nassiri starting in 2022, and Manish Aghi and Sonia Partap joining in 2023. Shawn Hervey-Jumper will also serve as Deputy Director, representing the Scientific Planning Committee of the SNO Annual Meeting.

At the heart of the Neuro-Oncology Academy are over 60 pre-recorded presentations organized into eleven Learning Modules, each designed to provide learners with comprehensive understanding of critical neuro-oncology topics and frequently encountered clinical challenges.  Access to the Learning Modules is available to both SNO members and non-members at no charge – SNO members can login using their SNO credentials, and non-members can simply register to create a complementary Academy account. The Learning Modules were commissioned by Patrick Wen and Isabel Arrillaga-Romany, with the assistance of SNO members Nancy Ann Oberheim Bush, Erin Dunbar, Maria-Beatriz Lopes, David Schiff, and Isabelle Germano.

Under the direction of the scientific leadership of the Academy, all future SNO webinars, virtual tumor boards and online courses will be delivered through the new online platform.  The scientific leadership will review proposed educational content and shall evaluate concepts based on scientific merit and educational need.

The Neuro-Oncology Academy was conceptualized during the presidency of Gelareh Zadeh, with Erik Sulman and Chas Haynes overseeing the process for the selection and implementation of the learning management software.  Day-to-day operations of the Academy will be managed by SNO staff members, Shelley Pressley and MeLesa Ritterhouse.

Stay up to date with upcoming webinars and events by subscribing to the SNO Digest. If you have ideas or topics you would like the Academy leadership to consider, complete the online form. For questions about the academy, email [email protected].
