2024 SNO/ASCO CNS Metastases Conference

Leveraging multi-sector collaboration to disrupt CNS metastases.

Keynote Speakers

Reinhard Dummer
University Hospital Zurich

Reinhard Dummer, MD, is a Professor of the University of Zürich and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Dermatology in the University Hospital of Zürich, Switzerland and is a key thought leader in worldwide cutaneous oncology. Currently he heads the Skin Cancer Unit and the Clinical Trial Unit of the Department of Dermatology. Professor Dummer began his medical education in haematology and oncology before successfully completing his dermatology residency in Würzburg, Germany, and Zürich in 1992. He is Board Certified in allergology, clinical immunology, dermatology and dermatopathology. Professor Dummer’s principal research interests are molecular biology, immunology and immunotherapy of cutaneous malignancies, including cutaneous lymphomas and melanomas. He has published approximately 1,000 papers with a cumulative impact factor of more than 7199.039. In the last 20 years, he has developed a leading skin cancer center in Zurich. This center offers the best medical care and a network of clinical trials reaching from phase I to phase III. Towards research translation, he has established numerous cooperations with basic research groups at the UZH and federal University (ETH). This has resulted in improving the understanding of cutaneous malignancies. He was past-president of the Melanoma Project Group of the Swiss Institute for Applied Cancer Research, 1999-2016, is a member of the German National Academy of Sciences (Leopoldina) and is a past board member of the Society for Melanoma Research and past President of the International Society for Cutaneous Lymphomas. He is a founding and board member of the European Association of Dermato-Oncology (EADO), ESMO, EATI, URPP and past President of the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR).

Melanie Hayden Gephart
Stanford University

Melanie Hayden Gephart, MD, MAS a Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine and Directs the Stanford Brain Tumor Center. Dr. Hayden Gephart’s research focuses on understanding and targeting the malignant brain tumor microniche for patients’ therapeutic benefit. Her laboratory (GephartLab.com) studies brain-cancer cell interactions, develops new brain and cancer cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers, and translates findings to clinical trials for patients. As a board-certified brain tumor neurosurgeon, her laboratory is well-positioned to accelerate translational neuro-oncology research, focusing on targets identified from, and validated with, primary human tissue and CSF. Her team has generated large and unique patient tissue and data repositories, which are freely available to the scientific and patient community. As Director of the Stanford Brain Metastases Consortium, her program grant (U54) unites multidisciplinary, collaborative groups of physicians and scientists improving outcomes for patients with malignant brain tumors. This work would not be possible without the generous donations of biospecimens from her patients, and work of exceptional trainees; Dr. Hayden Gephart has led the Stanford Neuroscience NIH NINDS R25 since 2015.
